Do you know exceptional rural physicians who should be recognized for their good work? Are you living in a rural community whose healthcare team is phenomenal? Recognize them this coming new year with a 2019 BC Rural Health Award!
Each year, RCCbc recognizes the good work of BC’s rural physicians through the BC Rural Health Awards presented at its annual BC Rural Health Conference. There are three categories of awards, with one honoree per category:
Rural BC Community Award
The Rural BC Community Award identifies a community that has developed innovative and collaborative approaches and solutions to local healthcare issues, or supported and enhanced the sustainability of the rural health care services and / or providers within their community.
Communities can nominate themselves or be nominated by a third party.
Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine: Team-based Virtual Care in Rural Family Practice
This year’s theme for the Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine in this category is Team-based Virtual Care in Rural Family Practice. This category will honour a grassroots community healthcare team that supports primary care service delivery to rural and remote communities. A virtual care approach that focuses on relationship-based care, collaborates with local providers, and allows for delivery of care closer-to-home will be especially valued.
Nominees for this category may only be nominated by a third party.
Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine: Lifetime Achievement
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors a rural physician who has dedicated his/her career to serving one or more rural communities throughout his/her career and is close to or already retired. Physicians must have worked a minimum of 15 years in rural practice to qualify for this recognition.
Candidates for this award must be nominated by a third party.

Award recipients will receive a plaque at RCCbc’s annual BC Rural Health Conference being held May 24-26, 2019 in Nanaimo, BC. A cash prize of $2,500 will be provided for each category – these monies may be used to support a celebration in the recipient(s) home community. Funds remaining from the celebration should be used within the recipient’s practice or within the community.*
*Examples of ways to spend remaining funds in community: equipment for the clinic / practice / hospital, subscription to a [medical] journal, donation to the community.
