Self-learning module available for physicians

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia has made completion of the course mandatory for obtaining a methadone exemption for use in palliative care and added other updates to their methadone for analgesia guidelines. This CPD approved course was developed by Canadian Virtual Hospice and a pan-Canadian team of pain and symptom management experts and is free for Canadians. is a self-directed online course for physicians wishing to improve their knowledge and develop core competencies for methadone prescribing in palliative care. The course is also relevant to pharmacists and nurses managing patients prescribed methadone. This Self-Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 2 Mainpro+ credits and is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. To date, over 400 health providers have received a certificate of completion. Funding for the development of the course was provided by the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.
