Qian (“CHEE-an”) Zhang has joined the RCCbc team as research assistant to Dr. Tracey Parnell with the Research Evaluation and Quality Improvement (REQI) sector, and operations assistant to Dr. Videsh Kapoor at the Global Health Division with UBC Department of Family Practice.
Qian’s work with the REQI focuses on supporting evaluation of Rural Education Action Plan (REAP) initiatives, to examine the effectiveness of REAP funding and supports in improving recruitment and retention of rural health practitioners. Additionally, her work supports research on rural health services to inform decisions and provide background for initiatives and directions taken by RCCbc.
Qian’s role with the Global Health Division supports program operations for international rural health projects, such as online journal club for residents and practitioners with an interest in global health, as well as database development for division electives/projects.
Prior to joining RCCbc, Qian completed a Masters of Public Health at UBC, where she focused on public health research methodology, health research, and evaluation. She has also completed her both Master and Bachelor degrees in integrative traditional Chinese and western medicine, and practiced clinically in China while conducting research and training. She is very interested in the methodology of health research and hopes to apply western appraisal approaches to demonstrating the efficacy and effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine.
