Northern Health, the Rural Coordination Centre of BC, and UNBC’s Northern Medical Program are once again recognizing the dedication, passion, and hard work of BC’s rural physicians with the 2015 Awards of Excellent in Rural Medicine.
Last year, 11 rural practitioners were recognized for their many contributions to the mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellow rural physicians.
This year, the Awards of Excellence in Rural Medicine will recognize and honour six opinion leaders: two from Northern BC, two from Interior BC, and two from Coastal BC.
Opinion leaders are individuals chosen by community members as the “most credible, likeable, and trustworthy” and frequently help shape fellow practitioners’ behaviours to adopt the best clinical practices. Often, these leaders are very approachable, knowledgeable, and often have more exposure to all forms of external information than their colleagues.
If you know of a rural opinion leader in your community and would like nominate him or her for an Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine, please email a short paragraph describing the nominee’s leadership role to Leslie Carty at email@example.com. Nominations will be accepted until Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
